Meet Preview: District 228 Quad

The Titans open up their fall season on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Conkey Woods. The course is located at approximately 135th St. and [just west of] Central Ave. Other competing schools are Bremen, Oak Forest, and Hillcrest. The meet is hosted by Oak Forest H.S.

Bremen will be defending the varsity championship after defeating Tinley Park on a tie-breaker last season. Bremen returns their entire conference championship squad and will be led by seniors Danny Meza and Javier Simental. Sophomore Tony Jucik will be among the favorites if he runs in the frosh/soph race.

Oak Forest will be led by sophomore Mike Reif who is coming off a strong freshman track season. He ran a 10:47 to take 2nd place in the frosh/soph 3200m at the conference meet this past spring.

Hillcrest’s strong sophomore duo of James Edgecombe and Michael Bell will be a formidable 1-2 punch whether they run on varsity or frosh/soph. Both runners had very strong middle distance performances during the track season. Edgecombe medaled in the varsity 800m at the conference meet.

The Titans will be full of new faces. After graduating 11 of our top 12 varsity runners from last fall, the team will be depending on a mix of youth and the state experience of senior captain John Kennedy. Kennedy and fellow captain [junior] Josh Hartman will lead the varsity squad. Frosh/soph will be led by the varsity caliber sophomore duo of Nick Martin and Ishaan Patel — both of whom are coming off strong freshman track campaigns. Other runners coming off strong summers are sophomore Ryan Franklin and junior Nick Marfoe.

Races begin at 4:30 PM. Go Titans!
